International Break Recap - October Edition
How did Philadelphia players do? Did they stay healthy?
The September international window was tough for the Philadelphia Union, yielding injuries to Danley Jean-Jacques, Tai Baribo, and Andre Blake. With Decision Day against FC Cincinnati looming, fans are understandably uneasy about players departing again in October. So, how did Union internationals fare this time?
Andre Blake – Jamaica
Blake stayed healthy, playing full matches in both of Jamaica's fixtures—victory against Nicaragua and a draw against Honduras. He recorded two clean sheets, making several highlight-reel-worthy saves.
Tai Baribo – Israel
In a difficult group, Israel faced France and Italy, playing away from home due to unrest. Baribo played 62 minutes against France (19 touches) and came on in the 75th minute against Italy (4 touches). Unfortunately, Israel lost both matches, and Baribo didn’t register a goal or assist.
Daniel Gazdag – Hungary
Gazdag saw limited action, remaining an unused substitute against the Netherlands. He did feature in Hungary's win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, entering in the 68th minute and recording 10 touches. While his minutes were limited, it’s still an honor to represent his country.
Danley Jean-Jacques – Haiti
Haiti played Aruba twice, securing two wins. Jean-Jacques was heavily involved, completing 89% of his passes in the first match and scoring a goal in the second. His passing accuracy remained high at 87% while playing in a crucial #6 role.
Andrew Rick, David Vazquez, Neil Pierre (Union II) – USA U-19
The U.S. federation continues to limit streams and updates, but we know the U-19s secured victories over Sweden and Japan. Pierre and Vazquez started against Sweden, while Rick and Pierre started against Japan, with Vazquez coming off the bench.
Frankie Westfield – USA U-20
Westfield made the most of his opportunity. Initially not on the roster, he was called up due to a withdrawal and impressed, coming off the bench in the first match and creating two clear chances. He then started and played the full match in the second game against Chile, raising his stock both internationally and within the Union.
