Sources: Loan of Ian Glavinovich
From Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, to Philadelphia—the Argentine brings a wealth of promise.
Sources: The Philadelphia Union are finalizing a deal to acquire Ian Glavinovich from Newell’s Old Boys.
Glavinovich, 23, is set to join the Union on a loan deal that includes a fee and an option to purchase.
During his time with Newell’s, the versatile player has made 30 appearances, recording one assist across 2,502 minutes of game time. On the international stage, he has earned two caps with the Argentina U-23 squad, the most recent on March 23, 2024.
Glavinovich was previously on the verge of transferring to Vasco da Gama in Brasil, but negotiations reportedly fell through due to Newell’s failing to finalize the paperwork in time.
That deal was structured as a loan with a $250,000 fee and a $2.5 million purchase option, along with a 20% sell-on clause for the Argentine club.

If true, Jack Elliot is gone.
.
Why is Newell's selling him? he's coming off of what Transfermarkt describes as a muscle injury that kept him out all of October and much of November. He had one 90 minute game and then was on the bench for three. No one is being relegated from the Argentine top flight this year, so it's not that. Transfermarkt rates him their top value center back, so maybe they are collecting their profits while they can?

An "AI" inquiry says that Newell's Old Boys is considered a selling club, so selling on their top CB would make sense.
Love it. Looks like a good defender who is comfortable progressing forward with the ball with an ability to complete longer passes.
