Enough of that, here are four things of note that happened this weekend:
- Sources: Alejandro Bedoya re-signs with the Philadelphia Union -
On Friday afternoon, a source reached out to let me know that some movement had happened regarding the contract between Bedoya and the Union. After following up with one additional source that would be privy to the details, they confirmed that Bedoya and the Union had agreed to a one-year deal and that he would be joining the team for the second phase of the preseason, which kicks off in Chester this coming Wednesday (1/31). Here is the Tweet I put out for those who missed it:
- EA FC24 leaks the Union kit -
After the Friday excitement, EA FC24 decided to make it even more interesting by leaking 20+ different kits for the upcoming season. For obvious reasons, my mind was set on one specific one. Here is the best image I could find for it.
I reached out to the Union PR to confirm or deny, and I received no response.
- Mark Mackenzie’s Genk vs Anderlecht VAR Replay -
The match between Genk and Anderlecht on December 23rd will have to be fully replayed due to Genk's appeal that VAR rules were "misapplied," citing Law 14.3 of the International Football Association Board, which states: "If there is encroachment by both a defending and attacking player, the penalty kick should be retaken regardless of whether the kick is scored or not." There is no date set for the replay of the match. The full video of the incident is here:
This gives me PTSD of the VAR being used on VAR between the Union and Montreal during last year’s season.
Bonus: Marco Fabián is still at it in the MASL. In nine matches, the Mexican has already beaten his goal total with the Union. Here is the attempt. It looked good for 75% of it, but what a great chest own goal.
